LaVerne Pelz Obituary

LaVerne William Pelz, 82, of Manson, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA. A Private family service will be held at a later date.

LaVerne was born on October 18, 1941, the son of William and Amelia (Tjaden) Pelz. On March 17, 1962 he was united in marriage to Margaret Ridge, to this marriage two children were born, Jeffrey and Michelle. LaVerne attended Sherman #7, and Manson High School with the class of 1959. In high school he worked at Namany Standard and later at McCoy Chevrolet and Cal-Car, all of Rockwell City. In 1969 the family moved to Manson, IA and he began farming. He also worked for American Concrete for several years. He always loved spending time with his family and his “girls”.

LaVerne is survived by his wife Margie of nearly 62 years; his son Jeffrey (Amy) Pelz of Firth, NE and daughter Michelle (Danny) Calmer of Manson, IA; three grandchildren Nick (Stephanie) Thede, Lacey (Cameron) Hunter and Jamie (Joshua) Kilcrease; five great-grandchildren Eadon, Lilly, Brooke, Beckett, Tenley and baby boy Miles expected in February. His sisters Shirely Ahlrichs of Storden, MN, Verna (Bill) Grant and Janet Anderson of Rockwell City, IA along with several nieces, nephews and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Ameila Pelz; infant great-grandson Mason James Hunter; his brothers Morris Pelz, Paul Pelz and Harold Pelz; his sisters Eleanor Hess, Mary Meister, Lorene Leman, Ruth Freese and Bette VanGundy.
